Biomechanics

Biomechanics is the study of the human body in mechanical terms.

The science is divided into two areas of study: extrinsic and intrinsic biomechanics.

Extrinsic biomechanics looks at movements, the measurement of those movements or tasks and whether you are performing them most efficiently. It is an important science that is relevant to any sport, fitness or work-related physical conditioning.

Intrinsic biomechanics, on the other hand, is the study of how your body is able to perform those tasks or movements in relation to your own mechanical make-up.

Anomalies with your biomechanics can have a profound effect on how you perform extrinsic tasks (movements) and the efficiency with which you perform them.

Whether you are a professional athlete, a keen recreational sports enthusiast or simply working on a production line, intrinsic biomechanical factors can have a major impact on your potential risk of injury.

A Biomechanical screening establishes areas of mechanical weakness in an individual, and then simple exercises are prescribed to correct them.

A Biomechanics screening establishes areas of imbalances in an individual, and then simple exercises are prescribed to help restore them to optimal function.
